Story or Concept Synopsis
Claire’s Crunch Cakes is a short profile documentary film about 88-year-old baker, Claire Mack. Mack was one of the very first Black woman to enter the world of local television and broadcasting in the 70s. She worked at KCSM and KGO, hosting multiple talk and interview shows on major public affairs shows. Later she ran for office and became the first African American woman to be appointment the Mayor of San Mateo for three consecutive terms .Mack is a multi-talented personality- a poet/writer, a lifelong activist and now a businesswoman, who churns out crunch cakes from her kitchen bakery in San Mateo. Claire has fought against a lot of odds, social and racial equity and now in her eighties still continues to fight for local housing issues. Claire Mack's feisty and vivacious personality is infectious but beneath her entrepreneurial persona, lies a staunch social justice activist, one who still champions for the rights of others in her community.
